The 'Nuova Panda' was launched in 2003 as FIAT's replacement for the Seicento in the booming A-Segment (or City Car category). Voted European Car of the Year in 2004, the Panda range has had a mid-life refresh for 2007 which (with some tinkering in 2008) will see this brilliant little car through to the end of production in 2010.

Robust, attractive and well laid out with the gearlever mounted high up; from the moment you step aboard you know this car will be fun to drive. And it doesn’t disappoint. The Panda has been widely praised for raising the sophistication of the city car above the rough budget feel of its contemporaries; a quick look at the specification and options available is illustration enough. In addition to ABS with EBD there is ASR, MSR and ESP, Bluetooth not to mention FIAT’s clever Dualogic clutchless gearbox with Hill Holder and the magnificent Skydome. The Panda is available with either front-wheel drive or four-wheel drive and a choice of one diesel and two petrol engines. The superb 1.3 Multijet won International Engine Of The Year in 2005 while the petrol engines are the proven and willing FIRE engines in 1.1 and 1.2 litre eight valve forms. Trim levels include Actual, Active, Dynamic, Emotion, Eleganza (although not all are available in all markets) while the four-wheel drive comes in 4x4, Climbing and Cross variants. There are also at least two special editions, the Monster and Alessi.
And it doesn't stop there, as befits a conscientious modern car, a hybrid version is available and a hydrogen prototype has been demonstrated. And what with tackling the Sahara, it’s own Rally series, going topless in Capri, swimming the Channel, is there nothing the Panda won’t do?
